Earlier this week, Android 2.2 build FRF85 was released, the big update everyone Nexus One got over-the-air. Today, Google has taken it upon themselves to released yet another update, FRF91. This update also seems to be going out OTA but not everyone has been notified as of yet. All the same though, a direct link has been found from Google’s site itself so it definitely is legit. Supposedly, this is just security update but no official word on it yet. If you manage to find anything, drop us a comment below!

Since the news of Steve Jobs one-liner emails promising HD video uploads over the air (OTA) from your iPhone 4 “in the near future” word spread like wildfire of Pixelpipe’s app, which can already do just that. With 720p uploads to YouTube, Facebook, and over “100 supported destinations,” Pixelpipe’s free app lets you quickly share HD videos immediately, without having to upload them to a PC or Mac first. Job’s response to a question of the purpose of having HD video capabilities when the compression upon uploading them makes the video’s useless and not viewable was the following:

You can upload them via a Mac or PC today. Over the air in the future.

His response might have been a reasonable one if it were only imposed on 3G data connections but when you check it out, even the “Send to YouTube” function in the iOS 4 Photos app downsizes video uploaded over WiFi as well. Pixelpipe’s app on the other hand allows videos up to 200 MB in size to be uploaded at full resolution over the air from your iPhone. It does give you the option of downsampling your video before uploading it. You can link your Pixelpipe to your Twitter account and load video OTA to your Facebook, Myspace, YouTube, Flickr, your blog, or pretty much any other social networking site one can imagine. Although the app is still a little buggy, its still well worth a try especially since the alternative fails to compare. The app as mentioned before is also free so it doesn’t hurt either. You can download the app by clicking on the following link: [iTunes Link]

Recently, Planetbeing, a member of the iPhone Dev Team, sparked many thoughts (good ones) with an exciting post on Twitter. His tweet indicated that it might be possible to develop exploits that can work beyond the current days of the iOS 4 and well into the future of all iPhone operating systems to come. Here is what his tweet said:

Having the iPhone 4 bootrom makes it possible to develop exploits that are immune to firmware upgrades (unlike the Spirit family of jbs)

Just one hour before the tweet mentioned above, he had another Tweet that stated:

Yay, just managed to get this out: SHA1(iphone4-bootrom.bin)= 03203a4ebc24bd2488efdaaa19f0c9589496011f (prolly same as ipad, though).

With this news as well as the news that we received just a few days about MuscleNerd’s and Planetbeing’s announcement that Comex’s Spirit jailbreak has been posted to work on the iOS 4 AND the iPhone 4. This is some great news for the jailbreak community. The developers are working hard at accomplishing more reliable and secure ways to jailbreak devices without any issues. The port of the Spirit jailbreak to the iPhone 4 wasn’t a bootrom exploit, meaning that it was something that Apple could patch with a firmware upgrade. But we all have hope now thanks to Planetbeing’s more recent announcements.

As of right now, you and everyone else you know must be wondering when a working jailbreak will be released to the public, but unfortunately as of right now, there is no scheduled release date. Its better to let the developers continue to work on their recent discoveries and release a final version that works and is better for the future of the jailbreaking community as opposed to leaking something that may only work temporarily. All eyes are currently on Planetbeing to see which direction everything will be headed in but for now, the pictures of Cydia runing on the iPhone 4 is still good enough to keep us thinking about the possibilities that are soon to come. You can check those pictures out again by checking out our previous post here.

One of the features that many people like in iOS 4 is multitasking and iOS 4 makes it easy to leave apps without quitting. What happens when you want to actually terminate an application. The act of quitting applications can really help with older apps that haven’t yet been updated for iOS 4 “multitasking” and that do not properly return to the state they previously were in when resumed. There are currently two ways you can quit and neither one of them is particularly obvious.

Force Quitting

Apple recommends that you bring the app you want to quit to the foreground to force an application to quit. Then press and hold the sleep/wake button for several seconds, until the Slide to Power Off control appears. Release the sleep/wake button and hold down the Home button for another 7-10 seconds. Your screen will flash for a second and you will return to the main iOS 4 Springboard home page with its icons. This methods works for all OS’s from iPhone OS 3 and onward, and is the preferred method listed in the iOS 4 documentation.

Remove the App from the Recents List

There’s another quick and simpler way to quit apps as well, that is to use your recent app list. Double-click the home button to display the recently accessed applications. Press and hold any of the icons shown, then navigate to the application you want to quit and tap the red circled minus button. This tells the app that you want to allow it to quit. Next time this application is launched, it will be re-added to the recents list.

If for some reason your phone still is running a bit slow or acting up, you can always try and restart the phone by pressing the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds and then sliding across to shut the phone off. Let us know if this helped some of you out by dropping a comment below.

Recently, Technologizer discovered a line in the source code for the Hulu website which indicates that the company is planning on releasing Hulu Plus for the Playstation 3 console and that you will need PlayStation Plus on top of your Hulu Plus subscription to enjoy the features it has to offer. It does add up to an extra bit of money if you add up the $18 for three months or $50 annually on top of the $10 monthly Hulu Plus fee, but still is cheaper than or equivalent to any other game console thus far. It is an all streaming app as well, unlike Netflix which for the most part still relies on those discs. Further down in the source code, there is another hint of Hulu developing an app for the PlayStation 3. Check out the code below:

Recently, Motorola hopped the bandwagon in poking fun at Apple’s antenna issues by creating a supersized ad for it’s Droid X in the New York Times. The advertisement points out key features of the phone that make it a must have for any customer. Ironically, one of the key features of the phone is:

“It comes with a double antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like and use it just about anywhere to make crystal clear calls.”

If this wasn’t a jab at Apple, we don’t know what is. What other basic feature found in almost every cellphone will Motorola claim is a groundbreaking feature be used in their next ad? Check out the full ad placed in the New York Times below:
