Apple’s share of the tablet market may take another hit next month as Research in Motion readies it’s answer to the iPad 2. On April 19th, the makers of the BlackBerry smartphone will introduce (to both the US and Canada) the long-awaited PlayBook tablet through major retailers like Best Buy, which similarly offers first and second generation iPads.

Possibility of Early Apple Store Hours Tuesday Morning

Many recent surfacing reports point towards Apple stores opening as much as one hour earlier than usual on Tuesday to accommodate shoppers who haven’t yet been able to purchase the presently sold-out iPad 2. One of the least popular upgrades tot he AT&T iPad 2′s 3G radio will actually end up making a big difference to many users outside the US and to international travelers. The refreshed tablet supports quad-band UMTS, similar to that of the iPhone 4. The original iPad, as well as the iPhone 3G / 3GS, only had tri-band UMTS, omitting support for the 900 MHz band which are common in Asia and parts of Europe. A recent report from a Japanese blog by the name of Macotakara states that according to their sources, Apple is toying with the idea of adding glass free 3D technology to the next generation of it’s iPod Touch. The iPod Touch would be a direct pocket-gaming competitor to Nintendo’s upcoming 3DS portable gaming console. This report comes after a multitude of 3D related patents that Apple has granted over the past few years. The plan is that pre-orders will begin shipping as of January 19th.
