RIM has finally released the long awaited major updated the Blackberry Playbook OS to include two services that have been long discussed and much anticipated: integrated email support and Android app availability.

RBC Says 250,000 BlackBerry PlayBook Tablets Sold To Date

Mike Abramsky, RBC Capital Markets Managing Director believes that RIM has sold approximately 250,000 BlackBerry PlayBook tablets to date. In a note to investors recently, the analyst points to channel checks in stating PlayBook sales have remained steady since the device’s launch on April 19th. If these estimates are accurate, RIM’s PlayBook is already outselling Motorola’s flagship HoneyComb tablet, the XOOM, which managed to sell 250,000 units in its first two months of availability.

RIM Acquires Cloud Calendar Service Named Tungle

Research In Motion recently announced its acquisition of the social calendar service provider known as Tungle. Tungle runs a service that allows users to maintain a cloud-based calendar where events and schedules can be easily shared with contacts. Blackberry PlayBook Rumored To Run Android Apps

It’s been rumored on and off for a few weeks now, but today RIM finally confirmed that its upcoming PlayBook tablet which runs a new QNX operating system will support both Blackberry AppWorld Apps as well as those originally designed for the Android platform.
According to RIM, Android developers will not be able to just run their apps straight off the bat, however. Instead they will have to repackage, re-sign and submit their apps to the BlackBerry App World, which is not a huge obstacle.

Just in time for the Consumer Electronic Show (CES), RIM is showing off the BlackBerry PlayBook again, this time with a deeper dive into the web browser. You can check out the video below to watch Matthew from the web browser group at RIM really put the PlayBook’s browser to use. In the video he views content in both HTML5 and Adobe Flash, logs into Facebook (the full Facebook), and even plays flash games on the web. Overall, it’s looking to be a really compelling experience.

The investment research firm ITG has been investigating the sales figures from Verizon Wireless and it has come up with a pretty interested find. A large majority of smartphones sold by Verizon Wireless are Android handests. Although it is a “new find”, it isn’t all that shocking.
