Pod2g from the Chronix Dev Team has found a new bootrom exploit that could possibly bring iOS 4.1 a jailbreak tool for all iPhones and iPod Touches. Unlike a userland jailbreak (Spirit and JailbreakMe for example) Apple cannot fix a jailbreak based on a bootrom exploit with a new firmware update. A bootrom based exploit can only be patched with a new hardware revision. Below are the tweets from MuscleNerd and Pod2g about the new exploit:

If you depend on the jailbreak and/or unlock, we strong recommend steering clear to avoid iOS 4.1 until new jailbreak and unlock tools are released.
One of the major new features introduced in iOS 4.1 is High Dynamic Range (HDR) photos. It seems like they will only be available to iPhone 4 users and won’t be available to iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G users.

At Apple’s special event on September 1, Steve Jobs explained that HDR photos are created using 3 photos taken in rapid succession, one normal, one under-exposed, and one over-exposed. The photos are then combined using sophisticated algorithms to create an enhanced composite photo. The webpage describes the new features in the iOS 4.1 software update on Apple’s website states that the HDR photography feature will be available on the iPhone. It doesn’t mention the availability of the feature on the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 3G.

According to iSpazio, Comex has two methods to jailbreak iOS 4.1. The first one is a userland jailbreak, which will allow him to release a tool like JailbreakMe to jailbreak iOS 4.1. The second one is based on a bootrom exploit like Blackra1n, which is more complicated and will take Comex more time to release it. Apple had released iOS 4.0.2 to fix the security hole, which was used in JailbreakMe 2.0 to jailbreak iOS 4.0.1 and iOS 4. So, it looks like Comex has discovered a new userland exploit.

Stay tuned for more info on the new jailbreak + unlock tools and how-to guides, by following us on Twitter and/or subscribing to our RSS feed.

Apple’s Official UK Site has this confirmation up that iOS 4.1 for iPhone and iPod touches will drop (today) on Wednesday, September 8th. This is probably the same day when the new iPod lineup for fall 2010 (iPod nano, iPod shuffle and iPod touch 4G) will also make it to the retail stores.

Today you’ll likely start seeing iTunes innocently offer you a new version of iOS “version 4.1″. As per the iPhone Dev-Team’s official blog -

Don’t accept it…it’s a trap!

If your iOS device relies on a jailbreak or a carrier unlock, make sure you keep your “clicky” fingers away from that tempting “Update” button in iTunes until and unless new jailbreak and unlock tools are available. There is currently no word as to when these new tools to be made available. Till then, make sure that you have PDF Patch installed from Cydia on iOS 4.0.1 to keep your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch safe from PDF vulnerability in iOS 4.0.1.

As per the iPhone Dev-Team blog, users who have their SHSH blobs saved can downgrade to iOS 4.0.1, but users who relay on the unlock if you upgrade to iOS 4.1, there is no way to revert to the older baseband at this time.

While those of you who have Cydia or TinyUmbrella backups of your FW hashes will always be able to get back to 4.0.1 if you make this mistake, this doesn’t hold for unlockers. There’s currently no known way to revert your baseband — if you update your baseband you’ll lose the ultrasn0w unlock, possible forever.

A recent announcement made by Microsoft stated that the latest version of their Windows Mobile OS has gone live for mass production. An XDA member named TAEL started a discussion thread regarding the announcement. Microsoft is claiming that Windows Phone 7 is the most thoroughly tested OS they have ever released for a mobile platform and that it is bound to be perfection in a small package.

It is understood that this announcement means that we will soon start to see far more active development for WP7 as we get closer and closer to the official release of the first devices sporting the new OS. In fact, there have already been numerous spottings of devices made for WP7 (most of them being test devices by different manufacturers). Check out the the announcement below:

Today is the day that the Windows Phone team has been driving towards, and we’re very excited to say that we’ve reached the biggest milestone for our internal team – the release to manufacturing (RTM) of Windows Phone 7! While the final integration of Windows Phone 7 with our partners’ hardware, software, and networks is underway, the work of our internal engineering team is largely complete.
Windows Phone 7 is the most thoroughly tested mobile platform Microsoft has ever released. We had nearly ten thousand devices running automated tests daily, over a half million hours of active self-hosting use, over three and a half million hours of stress test passes, and eight and a half million hours of fully automated test passes. We’ve had thousands of independent software vendors and early adopters testing our software and giving us great feedback. We are ready.

Are you one of the many people tired of seeing the same type of text on your Droid X when it comes to notifications? If you are, you can relax because you aren’t alone, many people feel the same way. Xda member, phimuskapsi, is one of the people who actually did something about it. He wrote an app that allows the user to change the text color in the notification area in Froyo (Android 2.2). The app he made is pretty simple to use, but you have to follow the instructions in his guide carefully as you will be doing some hex editing as well. If you are up for the challenge, head over to the guide thread and start playing with this neat little modding tool.

Hey all! I sat down today, for hours, trying to figure this out and I finally got it. The solution was actually a little bit easier than I had thought but I had to jump through a lot of hoops, semi-boot loops and more.

Status Bar XML’s per a couple requests. Download and pop in an Extracted (NOT decoded) framework-res.apk. These are encoded with light colors. You CAN edit these in a hex editor like HxD, open up the file, then Find 0800001C Make sure “Hex Values” is selected.

EDIT: Currently Making a Windows App to do this and other things. Stay tuned.
