Microsoft’s Windows 8 Demoed – Tablet Friendly OS

Microsoft’s Steven Sinofsky began showing off the Windows 8 operating system (which is fully optimized for tablets) during the D9 conference in California. According to the folks over at AllThingsD, which got an early peak at the operating system, Microsoft’s ultimate goal was to create an OS that cold run on a home computer as well as run on a portable tablet.

The new start screen that can be seen in the picture above shows a tile-based interface that is very similar to Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system; one that makes use of the company’s Metro UI. Consumer Reports’ Notebook Rankings Sweeped By Apple

Consumer Reports’ recent issue has Apple notebooks ranked at or near the top of every notebook category including small, 13”, 15”, and 17”. We can’t say it is much of a surprise but congrats to Apple for being the rule of the laptop world. It is honestly amazing that one company can dominate (in terms of quality) across the board in this many categories amongst a sea of competitors. There are seveeral well made, well designed, and powerful notebooks out there, but Apple has managed to capitalize on its brand recognition an turn out quality products.

Lenovo recently announced a giant pack of releases for CES 2011 including the: IdeaCentre A320 – the world’s new slimmest all-in-one computer at just 18.5mm deep, including HDMI In/Out, SRS Sound, and 2nd Gen Intel Core i. mSpot Launches App; Puts iTunes Music In The Cloud

Popular cloud entertainment provider mSpot, Inc., today went live with the iPhone version of its popular cloud music service that offers users fast, easy access to their music collections via smart phones, PCs/Macs and Internet TV. The service enables users to quickly upload their music to the mSpot Cloud and then immediately start listening from both desktop browsers and iPhones for free. A version of the service was launched for Android in June of this year and now has over 1 million downloads.

HTC VP Notes WP7 Sales Looking Good – Evaluating Tablet Market

A report from DigiTimes this morning contains a few interesting notes from a talkative HTC executive, Jack Tong, vice president of HTC Asia, purportedly discussed the iPad’s impact on the smartphone market recently, which he states is not as dramatic as the tablet’s impact on PC sales. The HTC executive went on to say that the company will continue to focus on Android-based smartphones in 2011, as well as Windows Phone 7 devices. WP7 has been selling well so far, Tong noted, although Q1 2011 performance of the company’s smartphones will be seemingly be a much better indication of the platform’s potential. AMD Prioritizes Netbooks – Speculating Tablet Market

Processor vendor AMD isn’t reall concerned powering the next iPad or a would-be competitor, according to DigiTimes. The company is still waiting to see if the tablet market even takes off. The firm will continue to work on desktop PC products and graphics cards, but as of right now is currently focused on graphically potent ultraportables. According to what was said in the publication, they aren’t intersted in following in competitor Intel’s smartphone footsteps either. A company spokesperson made the following statement after questioning of the whole ordeal:
