Multitouch coming to Nexus One

Google is planning to release an over-the-air update to Nexus One devices to add support for the multitouch pinch-and-zoom gesture in a number of applications, like the Web browser.

Google has made a lot of progress in boosting Android’s functionality to keep up with Apple’s iPhone OS, but support for multitouch, which is increasingly becoming an essential capability for touchscreen devices, was one of the last major gaps for the Android.

Earlier this week, in Apple’s town hall meeting, CEO Steve Jobs seemed to have attacked several issues that have been risen over the past week in regards to the iPad and Apple as a whole. How To Backup your SMS Message to a GMail Label on Andriod

Android users without Google Voice can still back up and read SMS messages online. The free SMS Backup App automatically transfers your SMS messages to a Gmail label as they come in.

You’ll need to enable IMAP in your Gmail settings and give SMS Backup your Gmail username and password. Google Voice Extension For Chrome

The official Chrome Google Voice extension adds click to call functionality to web pages.

Here’s how it works – if there is a phone number on a web page, or your online address book, it will now have a hyperlink. Click it and Google will throw you a pop up window asking which phone you want to use (home, mobile, work, etc.). It then completes the call.

Google Releases New Version of Chrome

Google has just announced that there’s an updated, stable version of Google Chrome for Windows, with added extensions and bookmark sync features.

Google Voice Available on iPhone

Google announced a mobile web version of Google Voice for the iPhone. To understand the significance of this move, here’s a bit of back story.

Apple pulled all Google Voice related apps from the App Store back in July, which led to an FCC inquiry, which led Apple to claim they had not rejected but were ‘studying’ Google Voice, which Google contradicted. Google has just announced that their Google Mobile App for BlackBerry now allows you to search through your BlackBerry emails and contacts. This…is…awesome!

The native BlackBerry search function can be tedious at times. With the Google Mobile App you can quickly search your device by simply typing or speaking a search term such as a name or phrase. Once matches are found you can open the message,  email, SMS or call the contact!
