iOS Security Exploit Discovered – Allows Access To Users’ Information

0

Charlie Miller, a well-known Mac hacker and researcher has reportedly found a way to sneak malware into the App Store and subsequently onto any iOS device through the use of exploiting a flaw in Apple’s restrictions on code signing. According to Forbes, the restrictions allow the malware to steal user data and take control of certain iOS functions.

Miller explained that the code signing restrictions allow only Apple’s approved commands to run in an iOS device’s memory and apps that violate these rules aren’t allowed in the App Store. He found a way to bypass Apple’s security check by More >

Unlock Your Windows Phone 7 With ChevronWP7 Labs

1

The enthusiast developers at ChevronWP7 have released their inexpensive Windows Phone unlocking tool, ChevronWP7 Labs. This tool provides users with a way to inexpensively “developer unlock” their device, providing them with two key capabilities:

  • Inexpensively run self-created apps on a physical device — Normally, budding developers would need to pay for Microsoft’s expensive ($99 per year) developer program, App Hub for Windows Phone 7, to run self-made apps on a physical device. (Enthusiast developers can run self-made apps for free in an emulator.) But ChevronWP7 Labs provides More >

Sn0wbreeze 2.8b10 Released – Jailbreaks iOS 5.0.1 Beta 2

0

Apple recently released iOS 5.0.1 beta 2 to developers via an over-the-air update or the Apple Developer iOS Dev Center. You can use the current version of redsn0w 0.9.9b8 to jailbreak this beta as long as you point to the previous 5.0.1 IPSW file. Chances are the iPhone Dev-Team will update redsn0w to alleviate the need to point to the old IPSW file, however no new version of redsn0w has been released yet. Nonetheless, sn0wbreeze has been updated to do so.

iH8sn0w recently tweeted that he has updated sn0wbreeze to support iOS 5.0.1 beta 2.

He provided a changelog which can More >

The Reason Why The iPhone 4 Siri Port Hasn’t Been Released

0

It seems to be one of the hottest topics being talked about right now but nobody seems to know the real answer to one of the most important questions: Where exactly is the hack that will get Siri working on an iPhone 4?

Thanks to Steve Troughton-Smith and Grant Paul, we have seen videos of it working but the pair has been reluctant to make the hack available, at least the non-paying public. In a recent blog post, @chpwn has cleared things up by explaining why the port hasn’t been made publicly available, and as we suspected, it all comes down to copyright.

As of right now, in order More >

Security Researchers Demonstrate Hacking Google’s Chrome OS

0

When Google first mentioned its Google Chrome OS software several years ago, one of the selling points was the promise that it would come with better built-in security compared to other operating systems. The Chrome OS has commercially been available for a few months now and security researchers have already figured out how to hack it.

Two researchers told a crowd that they had used web-based hacker tricks to compromise the security of the Chrome OS at today’s Black Hat security conference. The Chrome OS is the software that powers the recently launched Chromebooks from a variety of More >

RedSn0w Updated To 0.9.8b3 To Jailbreak iOS 4.3.4

MuscleNerd (@MuscleNerd) has recently tweeted that the iPhone Dev-Team has released the third beta of RedSn0w for the recently released iOS 4.3.4 / iOS 4.2.9.

redsn0w b3 http://is.gd/6eek4Y is a *tethered* 4.3.4 JB for kernel hackers only (see #3). Most should stay back at 4.3.3!

This version of RedSn0w is for kernal hackers only. There is NO reason for an average user to update to iOS 4.3.4 and use this jailbreak as of right now.

A new post on the iPhone Dev-Team blog gives us more insight as to what the third beta of RedSn0w is all about. We recommend reading this part really More >

iOS 4.3.4 Jailbroken For iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch Using PwnageTool

0

Apple pushed out iOS 4.3.4 for the iPhone, iPad, and the iPod Touch. If you or someone you know accidentally upgraded to iOS 4.3.4 (on a GSM iDevice) or iOS 4.2.9 (on a CDMA iDevice) and your iDevice is not an iPad 2 then you are safe! You can use PwnageTool to jailbreak any device except for the iPad 2 running on the new version of iOS, while also preserving your baseband for an ultrasn0w unlock later on (for those of you with iPhones). The tool / jailbreak method has been confirmed to work. One of the downsides is that the jailbreak is tethered, which means that if your device loses power More >

Users who were updating to iOS 5 beta 3 and jailbreaking with Redsn0w previously reported experiencing AppStore application issues where these apps just didn’t work. iOS developer and hacker ih8sn0w mentioned the following to clarify why this bug was occuring:

redsn0w seems to be having sandbox errors due to it using the old b1 kernel. I and many others have not seen any issues with sn0wbreeze related to AppStore apps. If you prefer to use redsn0w, I am sure @MuscleNerd is working on a fix.

MuscleNerd recently tweeted that Redsn0w was updated as well to fix the sandboxing issue More >
