New Apple TV To Allow iPhone App Installation; Needs Launcher

We recently reported that the iPhone Dev Team had jailbroken iOS 4.1 firmware for Apple TV using SHAtter. We’ve some more good news on the Apple TV hacking front – Developer Steven Troughton-Smith has discovered that iOS applications can in fact be installed on the new Apple TV with only slight modification of the applications required to identify them as Apple TV-compatible.

However, before you get excited, please note that it is still not possible to launch the installed iOS app as there is no application launcher in Apple TV.
