Apple Releases iTunes 10.1; Supports AirPlay Video Streaming

1

Apple just released the final version of iTunes 10.1 for both Windows and Mac. This version of iTunes will be required to install iOS 4.2 (when released) on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Apple, also advertised the ability to “Use AirPlay to instantly and wirelessly stream videos from iTunes to the all-new Apple TV”.  We’re assuming that is from a Computer running iTunes at the moment, though we’re not yet able to do so.  Perhaps an AppleTV update is coming shortly. Anyone else able to Airplay Video to the AppleTV? Let us know in the comments below.

Apple’s Ping Music Service And Twitter Team Up

0

Twitter recently came forward and officially announced that the micro-blogging service has begun a networking partnership with Apple’s Ping music service. This makes it easier than ever for those who are using the service to share the music they are listening to, what they like, or what they have reviewed while using the service. Although it seems like a dream to those who wanted to share their favorite music with everyone they know, it may be a bit more streamline than they might like it to be.

The new service has kicked off recently and with it, you’ll be able to link your Twitter account More >

As mentioned by MobileCrunch, alternative 3rd party iPhone browser Skyfire did great in its first weekend in the App Store. Even though the app wasn’t exactly off to a great start (the developers had to pull the app as they couldn’t keep up with the server demand), it still managed to win the hearts of thousands of iPhone users who apparently needed a browser capable of playing Flash videos:

The company isn’t sharing exact numbers, but they did just tell me that their download numbers for their first weekend on the store were well over 300,000. At $2.99 a pop, that works out to one More >

Apple To Introduce 90 Second Song Previews In iTunes

0

Rumors have circulated for some time that Apple will increase the length of music previews. In a letter sent to music label representatives, Apple has stated that they will now increase song previews to 90 seconds for songs longer than 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Shorter songs will still have 30-second previews. As of right now, no time frame has been given yet, but the fact that Apple is informing label representatives indicates that the change may be sooner rather than later.

Apple has a history of playing hardball with the record labels, and they are doing it again. Apple didn’t ask the More >

Skyfire App Pulled Because Of Its Success

Flash on the iOS devices has been a hotly debated topic ever since the iPhone was first introduced several years ago. Apple and Adobe have not been able to resolve their differences and there still seems to be no end in sight. There was some hope however with a new WebKit app called Skyfire. It wasn’t a perfect solution to flash on the iPhone, but it did give people access to a fairly large number of Flash videos on the web. Unfortunately, Skyfire removed the app voluntarily soon after it was released.

In just it’s first five hours of it’s initial release, the app did amazingly well. More >

Skyfire Browser App Approved; Brings Flash For iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch

Skyfire will join Opera Mini as one of the very few third party browser apps that offer a viable alternative to Mobile Safari on the iOS More >

[How To] Jailbreak iOS 4.2 Gold Master With Redsn0w 0.9.6 Beta 2

2

Apple has seeded the final GM release of iOS 4.2 to developers. The recently released Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 (based on Geohot’s Limera1n exploit) can jailbreak almost all (with an exception of the iPad) of the current idevices on iOS 4.2. This has also been confirmed by MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team.

Note for jailbreakers:

Jailbreakers can use RedSn0w 0.9.6 beta 2 to jailbreak iOS 4.2 GM, simply by pointing redsn0w at the 4.1 IPSW (instead of iOS 4.2GM/beta). Though, the beta’s and GM version are for developers only, considering not many jailbreak apps/tweaks are working yet, including Cydia More >
