iOS 5.0.1 was Apple’s answer to the battery problems plaguing iOS 5. Although, it has been reported that iOS 5.0.1 doesn’t seem to be fixing the problem at all. iOS 5.0.1 also plugs up some important jailbreak exploits that hackers are working on using to develop the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5. Since it plugs up those exploits, Pod2g recommended not upgrading so that you can remain on the firmware that will support the untethered jailbreak when it comes out. If, however, you’re too late and you’ve installed iOS 5.0.1 and are having trouble downgrading, you can still have a tethered jailbreak for your device. iH8sn0w tweeted just a few minutes ago that sn0wbreeze has [...]

Fixes bugs affecting battery life Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation Contains security improvements

We recently reported that ex-Chronic Dev Team member pod2g tweeted out that he found an untether bug for iOS 5. Other than the information given previously, it is unknown on how far he’s gotten as well as when we can expect public release. Although he’s remained MIA for the last couple of months or so, he seems to be actively keeping us updated on what’s in store. Eight hours ago, he tweeted out a warning to those who want to update to iOS 5.0.1 upon release.
According to his tweet, iOS 5.0.1 will close an iOS security bug found by Charlie Miller that makes exploits dramatically easier to tackle. This would imply that a jailbreak for [...]

Are you an iOS 5 user and have been waiting dreadfully for an untethered jailbreak for your iDevice? Well there’s good news for you- @pod2g, iPhone hacker of the ex-Chronic Dev Team announced that a bug has been discovered in iOS 5 and could help towards an untethered jailbreak.
@pod2g tweeted officially on November 7th:
Hey jailbreaking friends, I’ve found a bug that can untether iOS 5. Don’t expect a release soon, but I’m gonna work hard in it.
It is unclear whether the untethered jailbreak will work on the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S or if the bug exists in iOS 5.0.1 beta either. But as of [...]

Apple recently released iOS 5.0.1 beta 2 to developers via an over-the-air update or the Apple Developer iOS Dev Center. You can use the current version of redsn0w 0.9.9b8 to jailbreak this beta as long as you point to the previous 5.0.1 IPSW file. Chances are the iPhone Dev-Team will update redsn0w to alleviate the need to point to the old IPSW file, however no new version of redsn0w has been released yet. Nonetheless, sn0wbreeze has been updated to do so.
iH8sn0w recently tweeted that he has updated sn0wbreeze to support iOS 5.0.1 beta 2.
He provided a changelog which can be read below:

As we reported previously, the Dev-Team rolled out the updated redsn0w 0.9.9b8 which adds support for iOS 5.0.1 Beta. Apple’s iOS 5.0.1 Beta was released fixing numerous security bugs and the iPhone 4S battery problem in iOS 5. Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 is available for both Windows and Mac users and can be used to deliver a tethered jailbreak to the user. iOS 5 currently has a Semi-tether available compliments of BigBoss which is currently compatible with iOS 5.0.1 Beta; it has been confirmed.
We’re happy to report that Windows users can choose to use more than redsn0w 0.9.9b8 to jailbreak their iOS 5/iOS 5.0.1 Beta devices today. A while ago, iH8sn0w tweeted that he had released sn0wbreeze [...]

Earlier today Apple seeded iOS 5.0.1 beta to developers. This update on the iOS firmware is said to fix a few bugs and enhance performance. Amongst the issues the update addresses are the iPhone 4S battery issues, the iPad 2 smart cover security flaw, and multitasking gestures for the original iPad.
If you happen to be a jailbreaker who couldn’t resist the urge of updating to the new beta firmware, we have some good news for you. MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has recently tweeted that the latest version of RedSn0w (RedSN0w 0.9.9 beta 7) can jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 beta. All you need to do is to point the RedSn0w 0.9.9 b7 [...]

Users who were updating to iOS 5 beta 3 and jailbreaking with Redsn0w previously reported experiencing AppStore application issues where these apps just didn’t work. iOS developer and hacker ih8sn0w mentioned the following to clarify why this bug was occuring:
redsn0w seems to be having sandbox errors due to it using the old b1 kernel. I and many others have not seen any issues with sn0wbreeze related to AppStore apps. If you prefer to use redsn0w, I am sure @MuscleNerd is working on a fix.
MuscleNerd recently tweeted that Redsn0w was updated as well to fix the sandboxing issue with AppStore applications on iOS 5 beta 3.
