Apple to Ban Film-Based Screen Protectors from Retail Stores?

iLounge and Macworld have reported that Apple has banned the sale of film-based screen protectors for its iPhone\iPodTouch and Mac lines in its retail stores.

In communications with vendors that have been ongoing for some time now, according to one company, Apple has said that it will remove both film-only solutions from its stores, as well as any case or other accessory that includes film protection as part of its package, such as cases that include film screen protectors.

Steam Officially Coming to The Mac With Free Syncing

The word is out and it is official, no more teasing, Valve’s digital distribution service, Steam is coming to the Mac OS X and bringing Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, portal, and the Half-Life series (along with Source) with it this April. Macs Get Support From Razer

Some of Razer‘s provide full Mac support already such as the Naga and DeathAdder, and basic support for others, but at GDC, Razer wants to “reaffirm” its commitment to Mac users. University To Offer iPad’s To Student’s

According to Macsimum News, George Fox University of Oregon, seems to be the first in offering it college students a choice of MacBook or an iPad. Chief information officer, Greg Smith, said, ‘The issue for us is the changing landscape of educational computing and the value dilution of a laptop for a traditional undergraduate.’ Smith commented that offering the iPad as an alternative to the MacBook is well-suited  for students who already have a laptop of their own, or students who may think the iPad will be a better fit for them than a full-sized MacBook.

Mac Pro Users Reporting Performance Issues

Apple’s discussions forums reported Nehalem-based Mac Pro users are and other locations that there is up to a 20% drop in performance while performing tasks such as listening to music in iTunes. Other users are saying there are similar issues when utilizing Logic and Flash.

The issues are also causing internal temperatures to skyrocket. One forum user showed how playing a 4-minute track in iTunes caused the internal temperature of his Mac Pro to increase by 11°.

Users booting into Windows 7 on the Mac Pro are not experiencing the same issues, hence pointing finger at OS X.

Apple Tablet Info Spilled by McGraw-Hill’s CEO
