Microsoft’s Steven Sinofsky began showing off the Windows 8 operating system (which is fully optimized for tablets) during the D9 conference in California. According to the folks over at AllThingsD, which got an early peak at the operating system, Microsoft’s ultimate goal was to create an OS that cold run on a home computer as well as run on a portable tablet.
The new start screen that can be seen in the picture above shows a tile-based interface that is very similar to Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system; one that makes use of the company’s Metro UI. Windows 8 includes Internet Explorer 10 and can run applications that are designed for desktop use as well as [...]

Nokia’s Windows Phones will soon be coming out at a relatively rapid clip after the first one appears later this year according to Nokia’s executive vice president of smart devices, Jo Harlow. “We should be launching new devices in a rhythm that might be every couple of months, every three months, something like that,” she said.
The first Windows Phones came out in October and we personally haven’t seen many devices since then. According to a recent sales figure from Gartner, the phones haven’t sold very well at all (which isn’t a surprise) although many surveys show that, out of the relatively few people who actually own Windows Phone devices, they love them. The slow pace [...]

When we looked ahead to the next release, we wanted to stay true to the principles of Windows Phone 7 – that software should get out of your way and quickly connect you to the things that matter most,” he further added that: “Mango builds on the work that we did in Windows Phone 7 and extends a lot of key scenarios around communications, apps, and Internet experiences – with even more capability and a deeper level of integration. [...]

Microsoft is giving students a reason to turn their backs on the Mac’s by announcing a new offer to help promote PC’s running Windows 7 operating system. Starting May 22, Microsoft is offering a free XBox 360 (with 4GB of storage) to folks who pay $699 or more for a Windows 7 PC – note they do not say “laptop,” which suggests that makers like HP and Dell are trying to boost their waning, post-PC sales.
This is a great deal students but it definitely points to a bit of a fire sale when it comes to the smaller, less memory equipped XBox console along with the PCs that are currently mouldering on shelves thanks [...]

One of the limitations of the Windows Phone 7 device is the lack of using the phone as a USB storage device. Now, thanks to a genius developer, you can use your Windows Phone 7 handset like a USB flash drive to store data on the go.
XDA forum member MarcHoover has developed a ‘USB Storage Enabler Tool’ for Windows Phone 7 which makes it easy to enable or disable the WP7 USB functionality.
You need to have Zune installed and one device connected for least one time. To enter the USB Storage you’ll close Zune.
The tool requires .NET 2.0 and has been tested on NT 6.x (Vista and Windows 7).
