It’s been rumored on and off for a few weeks now, but today RIM finally confirmed that its upcoming PlayBook tablet which runs a new QNX operating system will support both Blackberry AppWorld Apps as well as those originally designed for the Android platform.

According to RIM, Android developers will not be able to just run their apps straight off the bat, however. Instead they will have to repackage, re-sign and submit their apps to the BlackBerry App World, which is not a huge obstacle.

The upcoming release of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Server will remove the formerly bundled open source Samba software and replace it with Apple’s own tools for Windows file sharing and network directory services. The Samba team has moved active development of the project to the more strict GPLv3 license, which prevents Apple from realistically using the software commercially. Due to the licensing restrictions that Apple is encountering, the company has decided to remove Samba, the mechanism OS X uses to connect to Windows file and network directory services, from Mac OS X Lion.
