Secret Firmware Update Offers 8GB RAM Config. On ’08 MacBooks

0

Folks over at OWC have discovered that a ‘secret’ firmware update has enabled access to 8GB of RAM on late ’08 MacBooks.

In late 2009, an EFI Firmware Update was released to address the buzzing noises coming from the optical drive. However, it seems that somewhere along the line, Apple changed this update without notating it anywhere.

Whether any other elements were affected by this change is undetermined, but it did change memory addressing; with the later version of the update installed, you could address a full 8GB in Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, Software Update doesn’t show this More >

One of the most significant new features of the iPad (aside from the extra camera) is the new A5 processor. Apple’s claiming twice the performance and up to nine times the graphics power. During the announcement of the iPad 2, Apple gave only the smallest of ideas of what the device is packing. The company did refer to a dual-core 1GHz ARM More >

Chronic Dev Team All Set To Test SHAtter Exploit On iPad 2

0

Apple announced iPad’s successor, the iPad 2, yesterday in an event held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.

Since the announcement we have all thinking about the iOS 4.3 jailbreak for iPad 2, iPhone and iPod Touch. Chronic Dev Team is set to test SHAtter jailbreak exploit for the upcoming firmware. As we all know that iPad 2 is a complete new hardware, chances are that Apple might have patched the bootrom based Limera1n exploit in this new hardware. If that’s indeed the case, then iPad 2 users wont be able to jailbreak until and unless the leaked SHAtter exploit is More >

Verizon’s Chief Financial Officer, Francis Shammo, suggested on Tuesday at an investors conference that Verizon will soon end unlimited data plans for its recently acquired iPhone. The fading away of the unlimited plans may be happening as soon as summer, a move that many feared would come sooner than later. As of right now, Verizon Wireless allows unlimited web-surfing and data plan usage for $30 a month for users of its version of the popular Apple smartphone. This will be changing in the months to come though.

The iPhone, released just weeks ago on the Verizon network, Shammo says, simply More >

A recent report from Business Insider states that Microsoft is all set to unveil the design features of Windows 8 by the end of its fiscal year in June.

This person claims that Microsoft is taking a more Apple-like approach to interface design this time around, and will also be using concepts from the “Metro” interface developed for Windows Phone 7. Ironically, that interface grew out of the Media Center UI that shipped with Windows XP back in 2004, but the Media Center interface was meant to be viewed from up to 10 feet away and controlled with a remote control, whereas Metro is
