We recently reported that ex-Chronic Dev Team member pod2g tweeted out that he found an untether bug for iOS 5. Other than the information given previously, it is unknown on how far he’s gotten as well as when we can expect public release. Although he’s remained MIA for the last couple of months or so, he seems to be actively keeping us updated on what’s in store. Are you an iOS 5 user and have been waiting dreadfully for an untethered jailbreak for your iDevice? Well there’s good news for you- @pod2g, iPhone hacker of the ex-Chronic Dev Team announced that a bug has been discovered in iOS 5 and could help towards an untethered jailbreak.

Charlie Miller, a well-known Mac hacker and researcher has reportedly found a way to sneak malware into the App Store and subsequently onto any iOS device through the use of exploiting a flaw in Apple’s restrictions on code signing. According to Forbes, the restrictions allow the malware to steal user data and take control of certain iOS functions.

Apple recently released iOS 5.0.1 beta 2 to developers via an over-the-air update or the Apple Developer iOS Dev Center. You can use the current version of redsn0w 0.9.9b8 to jailbreak this beta as long as you point to the previous 5.0.1 IPSW file. Chances are the iPhone Dev-Team will update redsn0w to alleviate the need to point to the old IPSW file, however no new version of redsn0w has been released yet. Nonetheless, sn0wbreeze has been updated to do so.

Apple Releases iOS 5.0.1 Beta 2 To Developers

Apple seeded iOS 5.0.1 beta 2 to developers today. This update came roughly two days after the first iOS 5.0.1 beta.
If you are signed-up developer you’ll be getting this update over the air. Or, you could head on over to the iOS Developer Center and download it without waiting. This version is identified by codename 9A404, while yesterdays release was 9A402, and more than likely the changes between the two are rather tiny.

As we reported previously, the Dev-Team rolled out the updated redsn0w 0.9.9b8 which adds support for iOS 5.0.1 Beta. Apple’s iOS 5.0.1 Beta was released fixing numerous security bugs and the iPhone 4S battery problem in iOS 5. Earlier today Apple seeded iOS 5.0.1 beta to developers. This update on the iOS firmware is said to fix a few bugs and enhance performance. Amongst the issues the update addresses are the iPhone 4S battery issues, the iPad 2 smart cover security flaw, and multitasking gestures for the original iPad.

It seems to be one of the hottest topics being talked about right now but nobody seems to know the real answer to one of the most important questions: Where exactly is the hack that will get Siri working on an iPhone 4?
Thanks to Steve Troughton-Smith and Grant Paul, we have seen videos of it working but the pair has been reluctant to make the hack available, at least the non-paying public.
