The iPhone hacker Pod2g from the Chronic Dev Team has recently confirmed that the update GreenPois0n tool will untether jailbreak the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G, and iPad running iOS 4.2.1 OOB without requiring SHSH blobs for iOS 4.2b3.

About the 4.2.1. OOB jailbreak : it will be for all devices supported by gp at that time.

Just recently, Joshua Hill of the Chronic Dev Team posted a teaser video showing the untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak running on the iPhone 4. Interestingly enough, last week Pod2g (who previously discovered the SHAtter jailbreak exploit) discovered another exploit for an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch running on iOS 4.2.1. This new exploit is likely to be saved and used in a new tool which will help to jailbreak iOS 4.3+ or iOS 5.0.

As mentioned before there is already Redsn0w 0.9.7 beta for an untethered jailbreak method for iOS 4.2.1 for the iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G, and iPad, which many iOS 4.x users had previously been waiting for. We previously put up a step-by-step guide you can follow to use that. As far as @comex’s JailbreakMe 3.0 and GeoHot’s untethered 4.2.1 jailbreak, no further news has currently been released for either.
