HP Decides To Focus On webOS – No Windows Phone 7
HP recently mentioned that it will not be double dipping when it comes to webOS and Windows Phone 7 – they will only be making webOS phones. That shouldn’t really be a surprise though since HP did invest $1.2 billion into Palm and their webOS by buying the company out. When you spend all the cash for them, you are obviously going to use them.
In an interview with CNBC HP Personal Systems Group VP Todd Bradley mentioned this about HP’s standing with Microsoft (and Android) smartphones:
We continue to be Microsoft’s largest customer, and we continue to believe we will drive innovation with Microsoft. At the same time, I think it’s clear to say, that we’re very focused on the customer, and giving the customer the experience that’s important to them. We won’t do — will not do a Linux / Android phone. We won’t do a Microsoft phone…Our intent is to focus those resources and really make webOS the best OS it can be.
The statement shows how late Microsoft is coming into the game with Windows Phone 7. HP, Microsoft’s biggest partner decided to buy their own OS because Windows Phone 7 wasn’t available at the time. This does not affect other mobile gadgets though as HP’s Slate is still stated to be running a Windows variant for enterprises.
