If you thought Samsung was just going to stick with the Galaxy S line in the Android OS area then you were wrong! We’re now getting wind of some specs for an upcoming Android slider known as the Samsung Galaxy Q. It’s a bit strange that some features are better than that of the Galaxy S while others seem to lag a bit behind.
Samsung’s Galaxy Q has many similarities to that of the Galaxy S. This includes the same 1GHz Hummingbird processor and Super AMOLED display technology that we see in the S line. Oddly enough though the display is 3 inches in contrast to the Galaxy S 4-inch super AMOLED display. We thought the T-Mobile Samsung’s Vibrant’s 4-inch display is the perfect size for smartphones, but Samsung seems to think otherwise.
The Q is rumored to be sporting an 8 megapixel camera (with an LED flash) on the rear that can record HD video, as well a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera. Rounding out the device’s feature set you’ll find 16GB of internal storage space, WiFi b/g/n, MicroSD card slot, Bluetooth 3.0, and a mini HDMI port. oh yeah it’ll also be shipping with Android 2.2 (Froyo), and of course, the Q will have a QWERTY keyboard – similarly to the keyboard-toting Samsung Galaxy S Pro. The Q could end up being something like a smaller Galaxy S Pro with a better camera. We still don’t know what the device will look like but we won’t be surprised if Samsung kept the design aesthetic of the Sprint Epic 4G (Sprint’s variant of the Galaxy S). Samsung makes good phones but nothing to write home about. We’re just happy that there is another Android slider coming out with an impressive spec sheet. Smartphones like the LG Ally and MyTouch Slide just can’t compete with the high end devices coming out today.
Pricing and availability also is unknown at the moment and it seems the price could go either way. Taking an inch off their super AMOLED display may help Samsung give the Q a more competitive price compared to the S Pro, but that’s just speculation. We’ll be sure to keep you up to date on the device as more details become available so stay tuned by following us on Twitter and/or subscribing to our RSS feed.
